EPP MEP labels 500 German entrepreneurs as "lackeys of Asia and America"

6th July 2005 — In a press release published a few hours before the European Parliament's software patent vote, Werner Langen, MEP of the EPP-ED group from Germany labels the "entrepreneurs against software patents", a group supported by 500 German IT companies, as "lackeys of Asia and America", and accuses them of selfishly undermining important trade barriers without which European industry as a whole would be harmed. While Langen appears to have taken over the role of sending out aggressive pro-patent test balloons to the media, his colleague Lehne, who lately came under media fire because of his part-time job as a lobbying consultant for a patent firm, is meanwhile choosing a more conciliatory packaging for his messages.
